ECC Establishes Formal Partnership with IEEE P2413 WG

In March 2017, the Edge Computing Consortium (ECC) established a formal partnership with the IEEE P2413 Working Group (WG) to increase bilateral cooperation and sharing of information and technologies.

In June 2014, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) launched a new standards development project, IEEE P2413 IEEE Standard for an Architectural Framework for the Internet of Things (IoT), to reduce market isolation, ensure interoperability, and promote greater progress and development of the IoT.

In July 2014, the IEEE P2413 WG was officially established, aiming to define an IoT architectural framework that provides a reference model for developing a unified method of building key IoT systems and infrastructure. The IEEE P2413 WG also provides solutions to key issues such as security and privacy. As IoT development progresses, a blueprint for data abstraction and basic architectural building blocks are required for simplified integration into multi-tiered systems. By providing the basic blocks, the IEEE P2413 standard will help reduce isolation between industries and vertical markets and enable cross-domain application programs, ensuring high quality of the IoT on a global scale. In addition, the IEEE P2413 WG will collaborate with standardization organizations and major stakeholders to help build industry consensus, quickly implement the basic framework for IoT development, and facilitate technology innovation.
